CUAET Work Permit Extension for Ukrainians in Canada

Work Permit Extension for Ukrainians Who Arrived Under CUAET

Ukrainians who arrived in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) before March 31, 2024, may be eligible to extend their work permit or apply for a new open work permit. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2026.

This extension allows eligible individuals to continue working and studying in Canada. Those who arrived after March 31, 2024, must apply under other work permit categories.

Key Points About CUAET Work Permit Extensions:

  • Eligibility:
Ukrainians and their family members who arrived under CUAET before March 31, 2024.

  • Application Deadline:
    March 31, 2026.

  • Permit Duration:
Up to three years, depending on passport validity.

  • How to Apply:
Online through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

  • Required Documents:
Proof of CUAET status, valid passport, and other supporting documents.

  • Maintained Status:

  • Passport Renewal Delays:
If you’re waiting to renew your Ukrainian passport, you can still apply now and update your passport information later.

What if My Work Permit Expires?

If you’ve applied to extend or change your work permit before it expired, you can stay in Canada and keep working under the same conditions—this is called maintained status.

However:

  • If you applied for a study permit or visitor record, you must stop working when your work permit expires.

  • You cannot work or study until your new permit is issued.

🕒 Current processing time (as of July 11, 2025): 182 days.
